Chocolate sensation: Idris Elba
It has been a while since Abina posted anything. For this reason we are starting off this season with a new chocolate sensation. This season’s chocolate sensation is Idris Elba. The now 38 year old actor and DJ is so sexy and such a success in his profession that I have to dedicate a post to him.
Idris Elba, born as Idrissa Akuna Elba by a Sierra Leonean father and a Ghanaian mother is active as an actor since 1995. He is popularily known from movies, such as Obsessed, American Gangster, The Gospel and Thor.

I’m trying to get word out on my Facebook Page called GIMME DIVERSITY TV.
If you “like” the page, you’re signing a virtual petition begging, at least the TV industry, to please, oh please, give us some more diversity on tv… PLEASE!!!
I couldn’t help but note, that with the sensation of v shows like Mad Men, show’s throwing nostalgia for the 60’s styles, like Pan Am and Playboy Club, are just window dressing to a world of white privilege.
Being white myself, I’m more than tired of not seeing better representation of blacks, asians, indians… my gosh, name a group other than “white”.
I came along your blog looking for people doing posts on Idris Elba. I had absolutely no clue he is a lead in a tv show called LUTHER, which has received high ratings from critics. Alas, this tv show is on the BBC and not totally accessible to all American audiences.
Kerry Washington is a lead in a show called SCANDAL, but it’s not coming out until 2012.
It’s one thing to have African-American characters as minor characters of little substance (which there seem to be a few scattered crumbs), but it’s quite another thing to have fully integrated, fleshed out “game changer” – characters that drive American TV show story lines.
It’s as though the days of Cosby are prehistoric. Tyler Perry has his shows, which are few and sitcoms at that.
I truly thought, at my age of 37, media would be doing a better job reflecting a more integrated society… but this doesn’t seem to be the case.
It’s frustrating. This isn’t the adult world I imagined I’d be living in.

I just watched the 6 episodes of Luther. Omigod what a man and what an actor! As the critics say about Luther, “he is dangerous as the criminals he hunts!” I’d want him on my good side for sure. I was doing a search to see what else he’s been in to watch ever since my son recommended Luther and told me he was a great actor and that is how I ended here.
